Invest in Awich: Turning 37 Farming Families into Thriving Agribusinesses
Empowering farmers in Northern Uganda through youth-led agribusiness, data-driven action, and community-owned transformation.
"We don't choose winners and losers—we bring the whole community on the journey."
A Community with Potential, Held Back by Barriers
Awich is home to 37 hardworking farming families, averaging 9 people per household. They grow maize, beans, and cassava—but earn less than $20 a month because of poor-quality seeds, lack of storage, and limited market access. Imagine harvesting maize only to watch it rot in the sun, or planting seeds that never germinate. That's daily life for Awich farmers—yet they remain determined to grow.

Seeds of Change Already Planted

"We're not just farming—we're building futures."
Roots Africa has already trained changemakers led by Abaliwano Vivian, who introduced mushroom farming to 22 households—proof that innovation thrives when knowledge meets local leadership. These changemakers not only trained farmers but also launched a business that now supports Awich and nearby communities.
